Glenn Beck is the Worst Person in the World
One of the things I get to do as the publisher slash editor of a politics and current affairs emagazine is go off on tangents about things that interest me. I’ve skewered Glenn Beck in X-Ray before, but there’s just something about the far-right American talk show host that is hard to look away from. He’s like a car crash, troubling to look at but hard to look away.
Beck called a
Tea Party rally for the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The ranting
teabagger stood two steps below where the great civil rights activist spoke, and proclaimed the need to “restore honor” and reclaim the civil rights movement. Amazing stuff, coming from one of most virulent and unstable personalities on American television. What’s amazing is that the
worst person in the world has a show at all. But if it weren’t for Beck and Fox News, Jon Stewart would lose a significant source of material.
Speaking of source material…
Jon Stewart is on Fire
Jon Stewart has emerged as almost the lone voice of reason and scrutiny around the Ground Zero mosque shit-storm. In a media culture where little real journalistic intent exists, Jon and the Daily Show writers have been consistently hacking away at Fox News' bigoted, openly anti-Muslim coverage of the Ground Zero mosque.
Now, one can editorialize till the cows come home but perhaps it's best to let the man speak for himself. Here is an admittedly long but fascinating account of one man's quest for Truth. Or at least a good laugh at Fox's expense. The Huffington Post has been watching. Here are their headlines from the past months. Readers in Canada can't watch the embedded video so we've tracked down the clips to go with the Huff Po's editorial:
